In 2020/21 IOS and Venture sailing are in a joint venture offering two ocean voyages in honouring the early discoverers and celebrating Stokey Woodall’s first East and Westbound Transatlantic crossings over 4 decades ago
The first voyage will be departing Vilamoura on the South coast of the Portuguese continent in October 2020 and will follow in the tracks of some of the great early explorers on their way and pursuit to discover both Asia and the Indies. before we reach the final the destination Gran Canary and the port of Las Palmas in the Canary archipelago
The resort of Vilamoura in the Algarve region of southern Portugal is best known for its large marina, golf course and casino. Vilamoura also boast fine beaches, red cliffs, Cerro da Vila archaeological museum has a ruined Roman villa with bathhouses and mosaics and the delightful fishing village of Olhos de Água. Vilamoura merges with the town of Quarteira, to the southeast, with more beaches.
Las Palmas is a capital of Gran Canaria, one of Spain's Canary Islands off northwestern Africa. A major cruise-ship port, the city is known for duty-free shopping and for its sandy beaches. At Playa de Las Canteras, a coral barrier lines the beach and shelters swimmers. The annual Las Palmas de Gran Canaria carnival brings together flamboyantly costumed performers, music and dancing.
Day 1: Join the boat in Lagos, Portugal, after settling in, time will be spent meeting the team and familiarising yourselves with the boat and preparing for the voyage.
Day 2-7, after breakfast we depart Lagos and embark on our offshore voyage following the coastlines of Portugal, Spain and Morocco, during this time we will be no more than 50nm offshore . During the voyage, you will take turns on watch and at navigation, you will also have plenty of opportunity to practice astro navigation under the ever-watchful eyes of Stokey Woodall one of the world’s foremost experts in the subject.
Day 7, Arrive in Lanzarote and journey's end

"Stokey" is a well-known ocean sailor who has in 35 years made some 31 Trans-Atlantic crossings and amassed more than a quarter of a million sea miles. He is a highly respected teacher in celestial navigation and has sailed to the Azores some 89 times teaching students completing their Ocean Yachtmaster certification.
